Single Riders Weekend

This past Sunday April 25th I was a volunteer for the Coaster Crews Single Riders event at Kings Dominion. The Coaster Crew raised money via donations and pledges for Give Kids the World. We had four teams and each team had 2 riders and a volunteer judge. The riders jobs was to ride each assigned coaster as many times as they possibly could. They did this by sitting in empty seats, hence the meaning Single Riders. The Judge job was to mark each time the riders did a lap on the coaster. They also helped the riders find empty seats. There were a number of other volunteers that were running coaster to coaster making sure the riders had plenty of water because it was so hot outside.

My job was a volunteer water runner. Clint and I walked around Kings Dominion all day going from coaster to coaster keeping the riders hydrated and making sure everything was going good.

The riders were great! Not relenting and getting those empty seats filled. The ride operators were great as well. They would announce why we were there and what we were doing.

I am proud of the riders for doing such an outstanding job. The highlight of the day was when Clint had to go through with his bet and ride Shockwave in a red dress. It was so pretty. After lunch a group of us gathered at the Shockwave. John Pagel and Faith meet us there and watched in horror as Clint took his ride. The ride op even announced it over the loud speaker and pointed out Clint in his dress and what he was doing it for. The Red Dress stunt landed the kids over $200.

All in all with the heat aside it was a great day. The Coaster Crew raised over $3,000 on Sunday with donations and pledges. The goal is $4,000and the Coaster Crew is going to hold an online auction to raise the remaining funds.

I am glad to be able to be apart of such a great event and I hope that some of you will be able to join us next year. Thanks to all the riders, volunteers and Kings Dominion. We appreciate all of your kindness and support.

Special thanks to John and Faith!

Opening Weekend & Park Ambassadors

Opening Weekend & Meet Up

This season is officially underway and it is shaping up to be a great one! I was at the park opening day and had a chance to meet a lot of faces from KDfansite. We had a little lunch meet up where John Pagel came to talk to us, and answer questions that the group had.

Park Ambassadors

If you have not had a chance to visit a Cedar Fair park this year, then you have not seen the newest members of the Cedar Fair staff, the Park Ambassadors.

Cedar Point started using park ambassadors a few years ago. The park ambassadors job is to sweep the park, and more impressively answer any questions a park guest may have. There is no limit to the question you can ask. The process is very cool. You ask the ambassador a question, and they will attempt to look it up in a book that they carry around with them. If the answer is not in the book, then they will write your question down and attempt to find the answer. If the answer is not found, the books get turned in and a new addition of the book is printed with the answers to all the unanswered questions.

Its fun for park fans to come up with questions to ask the ambassadors to see if they come up with the answers. But more importantly its great that the park has someone in place that can answer guest questions.

The park ambassadors are part of the entertainment department at the parks.

Ambassador Questions

Below are four questions that I will be asking the park ambassadors on my visits to Kings Dominion. A little test to see how much they know.

1. What is the proper spelling of Carousel?

2. What year did the Scooby Doo Ghoster Coaster start operating?

3. Who built Shockwave?

4. What is the number one Kings Dominion Fan website on the internet?

Future Events

We are currently working on more fun things to do at the park. If you have not already joined the KDfansite Photo Club, please email me for info.

We will talk to you soon! See you on the midway!
