Single Riders Weekend

This past Sunday April 25th I was a volunteer for the Coaster Crews Single Riders event at Kings Dominion. The Coaster Crew raised money via donations and pledges for Give Kids the World. We had four teams and each team had 2 riders and a volunteer judge. The riders jobs was to ride each assigned coaster as many times as they possibly could. They did this by sitting in empty seats, hence the meaning Single Riders. The Judge job was to mark each time the riders did a lap on the coaster. They also helped the riders find empty seats. There were a number of other volunteers that were running coaster to coaster making sure the riders had plenty of water because it was so hot outside.

My job was a volunteer water runner. Clint and I walked around Kings Dominion all day going from coaster to coaster keeping the riders hydrated and making sure everything was going good.
The riders were great! Not relenting and getting those empty seats filled. The ride operators were great as well. They would announce why we were there and what we were doing.

I am proud of the riders for doing such an outstanding job. The highlight of the day was when Clint had to go through with his bet and ride Shockwave in a red dress. It was so pretty. After lunch a group of us gathered at the Shockwave. John Pagel and Faith meet us there and watched in horror as Clint took his ride. The ride op even announced it over the loud speaker and pointed out Clint in his dress and what he was doing it for. The Red Dress stunt landed the kids over $200.
All in all with the heat aside it was a great day. The Coaster Crew raised over $3,000 on Sunday with donations and pledges. The goal is $4,000and the Coaster Crew is going to hold an online auction to raise the remaining funds.
I am glad to be able to be apart of such a great event and I hope that some of you will be able to join us next year. Thanks to all the riders, volunteers and Kings Dominion. We appreciate all of your kindness and support.
Special thanks to John and Faith!
